Obamacare: Buy Insurance or go to jail!

From the Drudge Report: if you don't buy insurance, you will be fined. If you don't pay the fine, you'll face a 1-year jail sentence. But don'tworry, because the President said your taxes won't be raised. From Politico:

Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.) received a handwritten note Thursday from Joint Committee on Taxation Chief of Staff Tom Barthold confirming the penalty for failing to pay the up to $1,900 fee for not buying health insurance.

Violators could be charged with a misdemeanor and could face up to a year in jail or a $25,000 penalty, Barthold wrote on JCT letterhead. He signed it "Sincerely, Thomas A. Barthold."

By definition, the people you're trying to help are those who can't afford insurance, and yet you're going to restrict restrict expenses to come in under the amount collected by them? Um, if these people could afford to pay premiums, they wouldn't need your program, would they?

Seriously, Mr. President.

2. When, in the history of government, has any government program actually been known to break even?
