Sotomayor, racism and rhetoric gone "awry"

Sotomayor says that she wasn't a racist even though she said that a Latina woman should be able to make better decisions than a white man. Seeing libs try to squirm themselves out of their own traps and explain their own errors is hilarious. Seeing them get free passes is grievous.

She said it was not racism, but a "rhetorical device gone awry." How fluent. I have to agree. It certainly did go awry. I'd be interested in why she thinks it went awry. For me, the rhetorical device went awry because it implied a superiority of a certain race (i.e. racism) and gender as it pertains to qualifications for the Supreme Court. That's why it was so far awry.

But I guess Sotomayor thinks that admitting a racist sounding remark should not be taken seriously because it was, after all, a mistake. People should be held responsible for their mistakes, particularly when their mistakes reveal a fundamentally flawed view and inherent inability to hold the office for which she is being considered.

She has said that it's not enough just to make decisions based on the law, but that judges should implement policy. That flies directly in the face of the oath she would take upon being confirmed to abide strictly by the constitution, and hold other people to it as well. Racist or not, she is disqualified for the Supreme Court because she doesn't respect the law, and sees herself as not limited by it in her decisions, equally weighing "life experiences", whatever that means.
